Trailer breaks loose, kills eastbound motorist

-- An eastbound motorist died this afternoon after her vehicle was hit head-on by a trailer that had come loose from a truck and crossed the Interstate 10 median, Mississippi Highway Patrol spokesman Johnny Poulos said.

Poulos said the female driver's name would be released pending notification of next of kin.

The accident happened after a trailer broke loose from a westbound Ford F-150, and the trailer crossed the median, hitting the woman's Toyota in the eastbound lanes of I-10 at the Alabama state line.

Poulos said the truck's driver was not injured and did stop on the shoulder of the westbound lane of the interstate when the trailer broke loose.

The Sun Herald will update this story as details become available.

The incident was really a tragic one. I feel sorry for the female motorcyclist who was killed upon hit head-on by a trailer that had loosened from a truck. Such accidents are on rise these days. We cannot rule out the likelihood of an accident when we are travelling. It can happen if we are a passenger in a bus, driving a car, riding a bike or a pillion driver. Most often, it is noticed that someone else was responsible for accident. The immediate step that we must take is report the incident to a police official. We must not ignore the incident. In case, we have suffered grave injuries, we can make a claim and get compensation. Failing to do so would result in inconvenience for us. Why should we suffer if we have suffered an injury due to the negligence of someone? It would be a wise decision if we were to act promptly and consult with a accident lawyer.
