Police recently responded to two cases of near misses on Route 7, in which, according to Capt. Michael Lombardo, it was a matter of luck that no one was injured.
On Tuesday, June 3, at around 3:30 p.m., a boat and trailer came loose from a truck heading north on Route 7 just past Wilton town hall.
The boat and trailer drifted across the double yellow line and came to a halt in the southbound lane without causing damage or injury, police said.On Thursday, June 5, at 9:35 a.m., an oil delivery truck making a stop on Danbury Road near Zion’s Hill Church rolled across Route 7 and over an embankment.
According to police, the driver of the truck had just removed the blocks from behind the tires and had stepped onto the running board, releasing one of two braking mechanisms of the truck. The truck began to roll down the driveway, throwing the driver off the vehicle, and then across Route 7 in a construction zone before rolling down an embankment and coming to rest against a tree. A large tow truck was used to remove the oil delivery truck. The driver of the truck was given a written warning for unsafe movement of a motor vehicle, police said.
