The crash occurred while both the bicyclist and the driver of a truck with a flatbed trailer were heading west on Northern, Tellef said.

A Few questions...

  • Was the trailer and truck combination over the weight limit?
  • Who trained the person on how to tow?
  • Was the truck driver going to fast?
  • Did the truck driver have a CDL?
  • Was age a factor in not stoping in time or hitting the brakes?

A 46-year-old Glendale man was killed Tuesday morning when he was struck by a truck while riding his bicycle in Peoria, authorities said.

The traffic fatality occurred about 7 a.m. at 77th and Northern avenues, resulting in the closure of Northern between 75th and 83rd avenues as police conducted their investigation.

The victim, who name was not immediately released, was pronounced dead at the crash scene, said Mike Tellef, a Peoria police spokesman.

The crash occurred while both the bicyclist and the driver of a truck with a flatbed trailer were heading west on Northern, Tellef said.

The truck driver, a 71-year-old Glendale man who works for a Glendale construction firm, apparently approached the bicyclist and was unable to avoid a collision, he said.
